BRETT YOUMANS KNEW THE 1870 VICTORIAN HOME
he bought
in Pennsylvania in 2005 would require many years of dusty
renovation work. So it was important to him to have a
creative—and finished-retreat that he could escape to.
“Having multiple projects going on at once can make you feel
like the light at the end of the tunnel is getting farther and
farther away,” he says. Brett built the worktable on wheels to
fit between the two windows, then stuffed shelves with baskets
to organize his supplies. A magnetic strip along one side of the
hutch keeps scissors and other tools handy. “Once I get in
there, it’s hard to come out,” he says. “It’s a nice space.” ®
